NYU Nips Women's Tennis in Nationally Ranked Showdown

EWING, N.J. – The No. 35 TCNJ women's tennis team fell from the ranks of the unbeaten with a hard-fought 6-3 loss to No. 24 NYU on Saturday, putting up a valiant effort that included taking two of the three doubles courts and a pair of wins for Marcella Warner.
 
FOR THE RECORD
  • The Violets improved to 3-1 while dropping TCNJ to 7-1
DOUBLES
  • Zoey Albert and Chase Eisenberg dropped a tight pro set to All-Americans Dakota Fordham and Isabella Hartman, who won by a single break, 8-6, on the No. 1 court
  • Prisha Priyadarshini and Gabriella Robinson controlled play en route to an 8-4 victory at No. 3
  • Aira Abalos and Warner secured an 8-5 victory over All-American Jimena Menendez and partner Hannah Chang at No. 2 to give TCNJ a 2-1 edge heading into singles play
SINGLES
  • NYU quickly flipped the script with straight-set wins at No. 1, No. 3, and No. 4, the last of which officially clinched the match
  • Albert gave Fordham all she could handle at No. 2, taking the first set before her All-American foe managed to secure a pair of tight sets in the second and third frames to eke out a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 thriller
  • The last match on court, Warner overcame 5-2 and 8-6 deficits in a third-set super breaker against Chang at No. 5, reeling off the last four points to claim a 6-4, 4-6, 10-8 win

  • The Lions open NJAC play on Sunday against Rutgers-Camden. First serve is set for 2:30 p.m. outdoors
