Softball Opens NJAC Play at Ramapo

MAHWAH, N.J. – The TCNJ softball team opened NJAC play with a Saturday afternoon doubleheader at Ramapo. The Roadrunners took both games from the Lions, winning game one, 9-1, in five innings before earning a 2-1 victory in the second game.

Game One: Ramapo 9, TCNJ 1

In the first game, it was scoreless until the top of the third inning. Camryn Kitchin was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, and she moved to second on a Sara Vincent sacrifice bunt. Kaci Neveling followed with a triple to chase Kitchin home.

Starting pitcher Maya Knasiak stranded two runners in the bottom of the third to keep the Lions' lead intact, but Ramapo broke through with six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, jumpstarted with a leadoff home run.

Ramapo scored three more in the bottom of the fifth to invoke the mercy rule.

Game Two: Ramapo 2, TCNJ 1

In game two, Knasiak put the Lions ahead with her second home run of the season, a solo shot to center field in the second inning.

Ramapo tied the score with an unearned run in the bottom of the third inning, and the score stayed an 1-1 until the seventh. After the Lions failed to take the lead with two runners on base in the top of the inning, Ramapo earned the walk-off win with a pair of hits wrapped around a stolen base.

Elizabeth Gosse allowed just one earned run in working 6.1 innings and getting tagged with the tough-luck loss.
