No. 20 Rowan Outlasts Baseball, 11-10

EWING, N.J.- The TCNJ baseball team dropped an offensive battle to No. 20 Rowan, 11-10, on Thursday afternoon at George Ackerman Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Rowan had back-to-back homers in the top of the first inning from Dylan Maria and Anthony Schooley to take an early 3-0 lead.
  • The Lions responded in the bottom half of the inning by loading the bases with two outs after a Chris Reeder single and walks to Andrew Fernandez and Ryan Goodall. Zach Hochheiser followed with a single to center to score a pair of runs, cutting the Rowan lead to 3-2 after one.
  • Rowan scored in the second and third innings to take a 6-2 lead, but Fernandez homered in the bottom of the third to left center to make it 6-3.
  • The Lions strung together four straight two-out hits to tie the game in the fifth. Fernandez struck again with a two-out RBI single to score Justin Marcario. That made it 6-4 Rowan. Hochheiser added another two-out RBI with a single later in the inning to make it 6-5, and Jack Haynes blooped a single into center to plate Goodall to tie the game at 6-6.
  • The Lions jumped ahead in the sixth. Jack O'Donnell and Mike Lagravenis each singled and moved ahead on Marcario's sacrifice bunt. Reeder followed with a single to left center to give TCNJ an 8-6 advantage. Goodall then ripped a double to left to score two more runs, making it 10-6.
  • Rowan scored four times in the top of the seventh to tie the game, 10-10, on a pair of two-run hits. The Profs scored again in the eighth inning to take an 11-10 lead that proved to be the winner.
