EWING, N.J. - Victoria D'Imperio and Cassidy DiSabato scored in a span of just over three minutes late in the second half to hand the No. 12 TCNJ women's soccer team a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over a dogged Arcadia squad in Tuesday night's home opener.
Â
Dominating on the field and the stat sheet but with nothing to show for it on the scoreboard, the Lions fell behind midway through the first half and spent the rest of the game throwing waves of attacks at the Knights. The dam finally broke with 15:59 remaining in regulation as Alyssa Alfano dribbled near the end line and sent a hard cross across the face of goal, where D'Imperio was waiting to volley it in.
Â
A little more than three minutes later, Alfano played a pass off for DiSabato in the attacking third. DiSabato took a few touches, got the ball to her right foot, and ripped a rocket of a shot over the outstretched arms of the Knights keeper. The scorcher gave the Lions a well deserved lead, which they had little issue maintaining in running their record to a perfect 4-0.
Â
TCNJ had the field completely tilted from the kickoff, piling up four shots in the first three minutes and six in the first five. D'Imperio and Caroline Freer both went just over the bar on volleys in the early going, and the Lions had 10 shots by the 19th minute.
Â
Still, it was the Knights who grabbed a shock lead through Alexis Rabold in the 22nd minute, one of just three shots for the visitors on the night.Â
Â
The Lions went into the final 16 minutes still trailing, but their persistence paid off in the end.
