EWING, N.J. – The TCNJ men's soccer team fell to DeSales after staying even with the opposition for nearly an hour, but wound up on the short end of a 1-0 non-conference match on Saturday.
The Lions matched the Bulldogs in the first half, with each team registering six shots apiece in the opening 45 and TCNJ holding the edge in corners, 3-1.
DeSales' best chances came from free kicks with the first coming nearly 40 minutes into the contest with a near miss. The lone goal of the game also came via a free kick that resulted in a diving header by the Bulldogs' Liam MacDonald in the 63rd minute.
The Lions' best opportunities in the game came from
Chris Meder and
Matias Hornos. Meder blasted a shot off the crossbar in the 25th minute, while Hornos nearly converted a pass from
J.J. Zaun from inside the box in the 32nd minute.
The defensive contest resulted in just five combined shots on goal for the game.
