EWING, N.J. – The No. 10 TCNJ women's soccer team's rookie reserves put together a banner night on Wednesday, accounting for all but one goal during a second-half surge that ended in a 4-0 rout of Susquehanna.
Jenny Ward scored twice – both on freshman-to-freshman connections – and
Maggie Murphy added the first goal of her career for the Lions (6-0-2), who remained unbeaten with another display of dominance in their non-conference finale.
The Lions hardly let the River Hawks up for air, dominating possession from the opening whistle, but none of their first-half pressure paid dividends.
Cassidy DiSabato had a pair of looks from 30 yards out on free kicks, and her second attempt bounded inches wide of the left post.
Abby Najdzinowicz was TCNJ's most dangerous weapon in the first frame, forcing Susquehanna keeper Katie Henchy into several last-ditch saves. Just shy of the midway point of the half, she sent a bender curling just over the top left corner of the crossbar, and at the half-hour mark Henchy had to go full extension to keep a Najdzinowicz shot out of the top left corner, tipping the shot wide of the post for a corner.
A minute later,
Victoria D'Imperio fired just wide of the post from a tough angle on the right side of the box as the Lions amassed a 15-1 advantage in shots in the opening 45.
The floodgates opened early in the second half. D'Imperio headed in a
Rachel Burkhard corner to break the deadlock in the 52
nd minute, and less than three minutes later Krott blazed past a defender and into the box before sending a pass across the face of goal that Ward easily managed to tap home to double the spread.
Ward made it a brace in the 63
rd, taking a pass from Weidner and sending a low shot through a thicket of defenders and into the lower right corner of the netting. Murphy capped the scoring in the 76
th minute, knocking home the rebound after Henchy parried
Alyssa Alfano's close-range shot off the post.
