Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Conner Gilson

Alfano's Winner Pushes Women's Soccer Past Rutgers-Camden

CAMDEN, N.J. -  The TCNJ women's soccer team took 81 minutes to score the game's lone goal in their matchup against Rutgers-Camden Wednesday night, but Alyssa Alfano's late finish was all the Lions needed to top the Scarlet Raptors and come home with a narrow, 1-0 victory.

Neither side was able to create much of a chance in what quickly settled into a defensive battle before Ellen Williams was forced to make the first save of the day in the 34th minute.

TCNJ (6-4-4, 3-1-1 NJAC) responded with a chance of their own from Jenny Ward as well as one final opportunity by Taylor Krott with just over a minute to go, but saw both chances saved by Rutgers-Camden's (2-6-6, 1-3-2) Giselle Lizardi to send the game into halftime scoreless.

Wednesday's second half told much of the same story through the first 35 minutes before the Lions and Alfano struck in the 81st minute to take the lead for good. Taking TCNJ's third corner of the half, Maggie Murphy sent in a ball that found its way to Alfano, with the junior firing a shot that snuck inside the right post and in to give the Lions the lead with less than 10 minutes to go.

Williams would go untested down the stretch, with the final whistle securing the sophomore her fourth shutout of the season, and TCNJ a hard-fought, 1-0 win on the road.
