Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Conner Gilson

Women's Basketball Falls At Rhode Island College

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -  The TCNJ women's basketball team wrapped up its New England road trip with a game against Rhode Island College Saturday afternoon, dropping an 82-70 decision to the Anchorwomen.

Amanda Baylock paced the Lions in scoring for the second straight game at 15, with Grace Kowalski (14), Katie Fricker (13) and Cassidy Brown (13) joining the sophomore in double figures. Brown added a team-high four assists off the bench while defensively it was Brooke McFadden and Fricker pacing TCNJ in rebounds and steals, respectively, at five each.

Baylock opened the scoring for the Lions (0-3) in Saturday's game, hitting a triple to give TCNJ a 3-2 lead. With the score level at five following a Fricker layup, it was Rhode Island College (2-1) going on a 6-0 run to stake an 11-5 advantage. The hosts' lead sat at nine with under a minute to go before the Anchorwomen sandwiched a Brown 3-pointer with two of their own to take a 26-14 lead after one.

Brown stayed hot to start the second frame, scoring TCNJ's first six points to keep the Lions within striking distance, setting the table for a 5-0 burst sparked by a Baylock freebie to trim the lead back to seven at 34-27. Buckets from Baylock and Kowalski cut the deficit to as little as six, but a 4-0 response by Rhode Island College built its advantage back to 10 with just over a minute on the clock. As was the case to end the first quarter, however, it was Brown coming up with a three at the buzzer, pushing her first-half total to 12 and making it a 42-35 game at the break.

A rare McFadden triple got the Lions within five at 47-42 with 7:08 in the third, but that was as close as TCNJ would get with one final push in the fourth – a 9-0 run that trimmed the lead Anchorwomen's lead to six – coming up short in the 82-70 loss.
