EWING, N.J. – Amanda Baylock started hot and never cooled off as the TCNJ women's basketball team cruised to a 91-45 rout of Kean in NJAC play on Saturday afternoon.
Baylock's sizzling start – nine points in the first two minutes – set the tone for a career-best 33 points, and the Lions (2-6, 2-1) led by as many as 52 points on the way to their second straight victory. This one was never in doubt.
Baylock was unconscious from the opening tip, scoring nine straight points on four consecutive makes to force an early Kean timeout.
The Lions' barrage continued as Baylock assisted on a
Maddie Bernhardt 3-pointer, and TCNJ had scored on its first six possessions on the way to a 17-4 advantage after a
Brooke McFadden lay-in.
The blue and gold went cold for much of the remainder of the opening frame, enduring a five-minute scoring drought during which Kean managed to get within 17-11. But a
Katie Fricker 3-pointer beat the first-quarter buzzer and made it a 21-11 game, and Baylock scored five straight points during a quick 9-0 run to start the second and push the spread out to 30-11.
Dominating the glass all afternoon, the Lions poured on the second-chance points in the second stanza.
Olivia Voshell grabbed an offensive board on a missed free throw, which led to a Fricker triple and a 34-13 lead. Kowalski, who assisted on that Fricker trey, drove and kicked out to
Izzy Augustine for another triple, and the rookie got a contested lefty lay-up to go down before a pair of offensive boards led to two free throws and a 41-15 margin.
TCNJ went up by as many as 30 on an Augustine kick-out for a Bernhardt corner 3, making it 48-18 en route to a 51-24 halftime surplus.
TCNJ scored 1.50 points per possession in the first half, also dominating in second-chance points (14-2) and points off turnovers (14-4).
The second half began much like the first, with McFadden swiping a steal and taking it coast to coast for a lay-up before Fricker converting a three-point play for a 56-24 lead less than 90 seconds out of the break.
The Lions never let up, building the lead out to as many as 52 (91-39) in the closing minutes before Kean scored six in a row to trim the final margin under 50.
