Baseball Falls at Salisbury, 7-2

SALISBURY, Md. - The TCNJ baseball team was on the road to take on Salisbury Saturday afternoon, dropping a 7-2 decision to the seventh-ranked Sea Gulls.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Salisbury (7-1) scored one run in each of the first three innings to take an early 3-0 lead.
  • A three-run fourth inning doubled the hosts advantage, making it a 6-0 game.
  • Gianni Marano ripped a two-out double to left field in the sixth – the Lions second hit of the day – to threaten a run, but Ryan Goodall went down swinging on the ensuing at bat to keep TCNJ (2-3) off the board.
  • An RBI-triple by Salisbury's Noah Burroughs built the Sea Gulls' lead to its largest of the day at 7-0 in the bottom half of the sixth.
  • Brian Lovaglio started an eighth-inning rally with a leadoff single, advancing to third off a fielder's choice and throwing error before crossing home plate on a wild pitch to prevent the shutout.
  • Jack O'Donnell continued the rally, hitting a double to left field to score Jake Carter, who had reached base safely on the attempted fielder's choice, cutting the lead to 7-2. O'Donnell was then thrown out at home on a Marano single before a Goodall groundout ended the inning.
  • Jackson Malouf tossed a perfect bottom of the eighth to keep TCNJ's comeback hopes alive, but the Lions went down in order in the top of the ninth en route to the 7-2 loss.
STANDOUT LIONS
  • Marano went 2-2 and drew two walks in the defeat.
  • Lovaglio also registered two hits and was responsible for one of the Lions' two runs.
  • Malouf was impressive out of the bullpen, allowing one run on two hits and fanning seven in four innings.
UP NEXT
  • The Lions are back home Tuesday, March 11 to take on Wilkes. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
