TRENTON, N.J. - The TCNJ baseball team battled Stockton in its annual Trenton Thunder games Thursday afternoon, dropping Game 1, 4-2 before bouncing back with a 12-4, Game 2 win to split the series with the Ospreys.
GAME 1: Stockton 4, TCNJ 2
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Stockton (12-14, 2-6 NJAC) opened the scoring with an unearned run in the bottom of the first following an error and a sac fly.
- The Ospreys added to their lead with a two-out RBI single in the fourth and tacked on two more in the sixth to go up 4-0.
- TCNJÂ (17-10, 6-2 NJAC) made noise in the eighth as Zach Hochheiser and Gianni Marano reached base to set up Tyler Provost, who delivered a two-run single through the left side to cut the deficit in half.
- Despite getting the tying run to the plate in the ninth, the Lions couldn't break through, and Stockton held on for the game one win.
STANDOUT LIONS:
GAME 2: TCNJ 12, Stockton 4
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Stockton opened the scoring in the top of the first with an RBI single to take an early 1-0 lead.
- The Lions wasted no time responding, exploding for four runs in the bottom half on five hits and two errors. Hochheiser, Marcario, and Provost all drove in runs in the inning.
- After Stockton added another in the second, TCNJ piled on with three more in the fourth, highlighted by another RBI knock from Hochheiser and an RBI double from Marcario.
- The Lions blew the game wide open in the fifth, scoring five more behind RBI contributions from Jack O'Donnell, Ryan Goodall, and Andrew Fernandez.
- Jordan Gray earned the win with five solid innings, and the bullpen trio of Jackson Malouf, Ben Amon, and Evan Frank closed out the final four frames.
