MAHWAH, N.J. - The TCNJ baseball team was on the road for the final time this regular season to take on Ramapo Thursday afternoon, dropping an 8-2 decision to the Roadrunners.
Ramapo (24-11, 8-7 NJAC) opened the scoring in Thursday's game with a pair of runs in the second inning before the Lions (21-15, 8-7 NJAC) leveled the score with two of their own in the fourth. A pair of errors put
Gianni Marano and
Justin Marcario in scoring position with one out in the frame, with a grounder off the bat of
Zach Hochheiser scoring the graduate student for TCNJ's first run. Marcario would score on a wild pitch in the ensuing at-bat to make it a 2-2 game.
The Lions threatened to take the lead with two on and one out in the top of the fifth, but were unable to convert after an infield pop up ended the inning. Instead it was the Roadrunners tacking on two runs in the fifth and four in the seventh – on just three hits – to balloon their lead to 8-2.
TCNJ made one final attempt at a comeback in the top of the ninth after Hochheiser,
Andrew Fernandez and
Mike Doran loaded the bases with two outs, but a grounder to third base pushed the Lions' left-on-base total to nine and ended the game in an 8-2 loss.
STANDOUT LIONS
- Marcario was the lone TCNJ player to register multiple hits, going 2-4 with one run.
