EWING, N.J. - The TCNJ baseball team delivered an exciting come-from-behind victory Thursday afternoon, defeating Rutgers-Camden 5-4 at George Ackerman Park.
Evan Frank earned the win in relief and
Ryan Goodall smashed the go-ahead home run in the eighth as the Lions (14-7, 3-0) scored four runs in the final three innings to overcome the Scarlet Raptors (16-6, 2-1).
Jordan Gray delivered a quality start for the Lions, working six innings while allowing just three runs (two earned) on six hits and striking out four.
Both teams traded runs in the second inning, with Rutgers-Camden launching a solo home run to left center. TCNJ answered in the bottom half when
Justin Marcario scored on an
Andrew Fernandez sacrifice fly.
The Scarlet Raptors broke the game open in the fourth, scoring two runs after an RBI single and an error by TCNJ, pushing the visitors ahead 3-1.
TCNJ chipped away at the lead in the sixth when Goodall scored on a throwing error by Rutgers-Camden's pitcher during a pickoff attempt, cutting the deficit to 3-2.
Rutgers-Camden added an insurance run in the seventh when a runner scored on a wild pitch, extending its lead to 4-2.
The Lions rallied in the bottom of the seventh, with
Gianni Marano crushing a two-run homer to left center that scored
Mike LaGravenis and tied the game, 4-4.
Goodall provided the decisive blow in the eighth, ambushing the first pitch he saw from a new Camden reliever and smashing a solo home run to center field to give TCNJ its first lead of the game at 5-4.
Frank closed out the ninth with a perfect inning, retiring the side to secure the victory.
