EWING, N.J. - The TCNJ women's soccer team found themselves down less than 10 minutes into their matchup against Penn State Harrisburg Saturday afternoon, but rallied to score three straight goals before the first half was over en route to a 3-1, come-from-behind win at Lions Stadium.
Â
The visiting Lions (3-4-1) struck just seven minutes into Saturday's contest to put TCNJ (3-3-2) on the back foot early, but a response by the blue and gold in the 18th minute quickly leveled things at one.
Â
Already in the final third,
Alyssa Alfano threw the ball into
Ari Keily. The senior took on a pair of Penn State Harrisburg defenders, getting herself in the box before firing a shot that was deflected into the back of the net to make it a 1-1 game. With momentum firmly on its side TCNJ wasted no time taking the lead, this time coming off the foot of
Abby Najdzinowicz.
Â
Isabella Charles controlled the ball 35 yards out, sending a pass to the opposite sideline where Alfano ran onto it. The junior one-timed the feed toward the center of the box where Najdzinowicz coolly beat her defender before rifling a shot that banged off the crossbar and down to give the host Lions a 2-1 lead.
Â
The action would not stop there, however, with
Samantha Rizzi adding herself to the box score with her first collegiate goal in the 37th minute to send TCNJ into the break up 3-1.
Â
Saturday's second half was much quieter through the first 35 minutes before the host Lions'
Ellen Williams was forced to make her lone save of the day at the 83:23 mark. TCNJ responded with a pair of shots on frame from
Raquel Garces and
Reilyn Carr in the final two minutes, but saw both turned aside, with the final whistle sealing the 3-1 victory for the blue and gold.
