MAHWAH, N.J. - The TCNJ women's basketball team went wire-to-wire in its matchup against Ramapo Saturday afternoon, jumping out to an early lead and never looking back en route to an 83-47 win on the road.
The Lions (11-9, 10-3 NJAC) put together one of their most balanced offensive showings of the season in the win, with five different players scoring at least 10 points paced by
Amanda Baylock's team-high 13. Joining the sophomore in double figures were
Maddie Bernhardt (12),
Brooke McFadden (11),
Riley Ahrens (11) and
Grace Kowalski (10) to help TCNJ earn its fifth 20+ point win in its last seven games.
The Lions took just 29 seconds to take their first and only lead of the afternoon, converting a McFadden triple into a 9-2 game-opening run. A 6-2 response by the hosts would trim TCNJ's lead to three (11-8) midway through the frame, but it was the Lions holding the Roadrunners (7-13, 2-11 NJAC) scoreless over the next eight minutes as part of a 13-0 run that turned an 11-8 lead with 4:06 to go in the first to a 24-8 lead at the 6:15 mark of the second.
The sides traded and-one opportunities – TCNJ's coming from
Izzy Augustine before Ramapo's Emma Cartwright responded with her own – to make it a 29-15 game with 2:20 to go before
Brooke McFadden and
Amanda Baylock closed the frame with a 5-0 run to send TCNJ into halftime up 34-15.
The Lions – who were just 4-for-13 from deep in the first half – started to heat up in the second half, hitting four triples as part of a 21-point third quarter before catching fire in the fourth to put the game out of reach.
Up 55-28 through three frames, TCNJ went a near-perfect 6-for-7 from deep in the fourth, getting triples on three of its first four possessions to start the quarter – all coming from a red-hot Ahrens – before
Reghan Bice (twice) and Baylock joined the party with their own 3-pointers. The trio struck again, this time from inside, as part of a 6-0 run that gave the Lions their largest lead at 83-41 with 1:41 to go, with Ramapo scoring the game's final six points before the final buzzer secured TCNJ's 83-47 win.
