Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Conner Gilson

Baylock's Buzzer-Beater Lifts Women's Basketball Past Rowan, 61-60

GLASSBORO, N.J. -  Play until the final buzzer.

That was likely head coach Chessie Jackson's message in the huddle with the TCNJ women's basketball down 60-53 with 1:40 to go in their matchup against the Profs Wednesday night. A message that was heard clearest of all by Amanda Baylock, who would put the team on her back by scoring the game's final eight points – including a baseline J to win it at the buzzer – in a pivotal, 61-60 NJAC win over the Profs.

Baylock started her solo comeback effort with 58 seconds left, capitalizing on a Brooke McFadden O-board before burying her second triple of the night to cut the lead to four. An offensive foul 10 seconds later put the ball back in Baylock's hands, who cashed in on another 3-pointer, trimming the deficit to just one with 43 seconds to go.

A final defensive stop set the Lions (5-8, 4-2 NJAC) up with a chance to win and it was none other than the Baylock answering the call once again, with the sophomore using a pump to get her defender to fly past her before hitting the pull-up jumper to complete the improbable comeback and secure the one-point win on the road.

TCNJ took quick control of Wednesday's showdown, jumping out to a 10-4 lead following a Grace Kowalski jumper. The advantage remained at six for the ensuing three minutes before a Rowan triple sent the Lions into the opening break up 14-11.

It was the Profs taking their first lead of the night three minutes into the second quarter on a Natalia Barrera tip-in, but a 7-0 run featuring buckets from Izzy Augustine and McFadden as well as a trio of freebies from Katie Fricker catapulted TCNJ back in front 21-16. Rowan would answer with five straight before the sides traded buckets to knot the score at 24 heading into halftime.

The Lions' smaller lineup struggled in the second half, with the Profs using their size to dominate the glass and build their lead to as much as seven (40-33) with 2:56 left in the third, but timely buckets from Kowalski and McFadden ended the frame on a 5-0 run to trim the deficit to two with 10 minutes to go.

Wednesday's fourth quarter belonged to Baylock, who poured in 15 of her game-high 27 points – including the final eight of the night – to bring TCNJ back from down as much as seven and steal the 61-60 victory.
