EWING, N.J. -The TCNJ men's soccer team achieved something no other Lions team had done before in its match against Stockton Wednesday night, finishing the regular season unbeaten for the first time in program history with a 1-1 tie against the Ospreys.
Â
Things got off to an inauspicious start for TCNJ (8-0-9, 4-0-5 NJAC) when Stockton (3-8-7, 2-4-3) scored the game's opening goal just 8:24 into the game.
Tye Maser was the first to get a shot on goal for the Lions in the 28th minute but saw his volley parried away by the Ospreys' Dan Raivitch. There to convert on the ensuing corner, however, was
Finn McCarthy, who used all of his 6-foot-2 frame to beat the Stockton defenders to the ball and head home his first collegiate goal, knotting the game at one.
Â
After
Matias Hornos registered the first shot on goal of the second half, it was the Ospreys taking control of the game in search of a winner that would keep their season alive. None tested
Sean Najdzinowicz early on, but the sophomore was there when his side needed him the most, making a diving save on a shot destined to curl into the far corner to keep it a 1-1 game.
Â
Rory Grace found himself with a pair of chances in the game's waning minutes – neither tested Raivitch – while Nadjzinowicz made one final save before the final buzzer ended things in a draw, closing out an unbeaten regular season and clinching TCNJ the No. 3 seed in the NJAC Tournament.
