MADISON, N.J. – The TCNJ men's tennis team capped a strong opening weekend with a pair of 7-0 sweeps over host Drew as well as Dickinson on Saturday.
TCNJ 7, Drew 0
The Lions picked up straightforward wins on all three doubles courts, highlighted by 6-1 results from
Harrison Maitland-Carter and
Asa Wong at number one and
Sidd Arudi and
Tomas Velez at number three.
Alberto Thomas and
Nathan Chan had it slightly harder at number two, but managed to fend off Nicolas Mobayed and Shivi Perera for a 6-3 decision.
TCNJ conceded just 10 total games across third through sixth singles.
Faris Shehata handled Mobayed 6-0, 6-1 at number three, while Arudi (6-1, 6-1 at fifth singles) and
Olufela Fieulleteau (6-0, 6-2 at sixth) each surrendered a mere two games.
Brett Schuster, meanwhile, was a 6-2, 6-3 victor in the fourth flight.
The top two flights were decided by razor-thin margins, and both went the way of the blue and gold.
Alberto Thomas came back from a set down and staved off a match point in the second set, which he eventually claimed in a tiebreaker, before downing Jesse Faro 10-6 in the decisive super tiebreak at No. 1.
Aidan Twamley split his first two sets with Daniel Arcari, taking the first 6-4 before Arcari equalized with a 7-5 decision in the second. Twamley got the best of the Ranger in the super breaker, holding on for a 10-8 victory to complete the sweep.

The Lions utilized a slightly different lineup in their second match of the day, but it worked to the same effect.
Maitland-Carter and Wong posted another 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles, and Chan and Thomas did the same at No. 2. Paired with rookie
Logan Knasiak, Arudi claimed a 6-2 victory at No. 3.
Schuster (No. 3) and Velez (No. 5) each rolled to 6-1, 6-0 wins in their respective singles matches, while Shehata clinched it with a 7-6 (6), 6-3 defeat of Lucas Bogle at No. 2.
Maitland-Carter notched a 6-3, 6-2 win over David Daraban on the top court, and Fieulleteau produced a 6-2, 6-4 result at No. 4.
Knasiak closed out the day in style, winning a deuce point to secure a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Jack Weaver at number six.
