WESTMINSTER, Md. – The TCNJ baseball team suffered a tough loss at the hands of McDaniel College on Thursday evening, dropping an 11-2 decision.
The game started well for the Lions (5-6), however, who wasted no time putting runs on the board. In the top of the first, TCNJ loaded the bases after
Jack O'Donnell,
Michael Contiliano, and
Tyler Provost all got on base. A sacrifice fly from
Jake Carter - his third in two games and fifth of the young season - and a
Brian Lovaglio single drove in a run each.
Joe Dwyer later drew a walk later in the inning to load the bases again, but McDaniel (7-5) was able to escape the jam with just a two-run deficit.
Unfortunately for the Lions, those two tallies in the first would be their only runs of the game. McDaniel responded with six runs across the first three innings and pushed their run total to 11 by the end of the contest, all while holding TCNJ to just one hit after the first inning.
Despite the result, some members of the TCNJ pitching staff provided bright spots for the day. Freshman
Andrew Wilkinson had a successful outing in relief against a high-powered offense, pitching 2.1 hitless innings in which he also logged four strikeouts.
Sophomore
Bodhi Lettieri made his collegiate pitching debut and did not allow any hits or runs in the seventh inning.
Nate McLaughlin had the lone hit after the first inning, extending his hitting streak to six games with a bunt single to lead off the fifth.
