MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Despite a valiant effort which loaded the bases in the top of the ninth, the TCNJ baseball team suffered a 4-0 loss to Centenary on Wednesday evening.
For the first time in his collegiate pitching career,
Andrew Wilkinson started on the mound for the Lions (7-9). Despite the loss, the freshman righty had a solid debut. He limited the Cyclones (3-11) to just one run (unearned) in the first five frames, logging a pair of 1-2-3 innings in the process. Centenary were able to put up three runs in the bottom of the sixth, however, and Wilkinson was replaced at that point by reliever
Ryan Greenstein.
Greenstein held the Cyclones scoreless the rest of the way, but the Lions were unable to break the shutout despite putting seven men on base in the last three innings. In the top of the ninth,
Jake Carter and
Brian Lovaglio both got on base with singles, and
Nate McLaughlin drew a four-pitch walk to load the bases with two outs.
Chris Salmon then stepped into the batter's box as a pinch hitter, but his grounder was claimed by the first baseman who made a nice play to end the game.
