GLASSBORO, N.J. - The 12th-ranked TCNJ women's soccer team opened conference play with a match against fourth-ranked Rowan Wednesday night, dropping a 2-1 decision to the Profs.
Â
All three goals came in a seven-minute stretch, the first two of which were scored by Rowan (6-0, 1-0 NJAC) in the span of 1:40 before the Lions (5-1-2) trimmed the lead back to one four minutes later.
Â
Trailing for the first time all season following a pair of Profs goals, TCNJ earned its second corner of the afternoon just past the 22-minute mark. The in-swinger was headed toward goal by
Caroline Freer, who saw her attempt denied before
Jenny Ward followed up and fired the ball home to cut the deficit in half.
Â
Ellen Williams – who allowed multiple goals for the first time this season – made two saves following the scoring barrage to keep it a one-score game entering the break.
Â
Pace slowed immensely in a second half in which neither side registered a shot on goal, with the final whistle handing the Lions their first loss of the season.
