Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Conner Gilson

Women's Soccer Blanks No. 23 Penn State Harrisburg, 2-0

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - The TCNJ women's soccer team put on a clinic in its game against 23rd-ranked Penn State Harrisburg Saturday afternoon, bookending halftime with goals while holding the hosts to just one shot in a 2-0 win over the nationally-ranked Lions.

Three shots in the opening six minutes set the tone for Saturday's contest, with the Blue & Gold (2-0) eager to draw first blood in their first ranked matchup of the season. That shot total jumped to seven – only one of which forced a save from Harrisburg's Sydney Mulka – through the first half hour before Isabella Charles ended the stalemate with her second goal in as many games at the 36:46 mark.

The score came on TCNJ's fourth corner of the afternoon, an inswinger sent in by Ava Visaggio. Charles saw her initial header get deflected inside the six-yard box, but on the ensuing scrum it was the sophomore pushing her way through the pack to make sure the ball found its way across the goal line and in for the game's opening score.

The visiting Lions carried that momentum into the second half, rattling off three shots on goal in the opening 10 minutes, but saw each turned aside by Mulka. The fourth time was the charm for TCNJ, however, with Jenny Ward corralling a long ball sent down the right sideline before sending a cross toward a wide open Alyssa Alfano, who volleyed the ball into the back of the net to double the Lions' lead in the 57th minute.

TCNJ subbed effectively to maintain its offensive pressure for the remainder of the contest, holding Penn State Harrisburg (1-0-1) without a shot over the final 50 minutes of the game en route to the 2-0 victory in hostile territory.
