As a rookie with the Lions in 2004, Andrew Cosgrove appeared in five games and managed to bat .400 in limited time at the plate. He worked hard in the off-season and earned a starting role the following year before suffering a hand injury mid-season. Before the injury, he had started 26 of 30 games at second base and was batting .290 with 27 hits and 15 RBI’s. He had committed just five errors in 102 total chances and had made the transition as an everyday player quite well.
Cosgrove returned to the lineup last year and started 35 of 42 games and turned in a .323 performance at the plate with a career-best 26 RBI’s and five homeruns. He finished the 2006 season with a .515 slugging percentage and a .403 on-base percentage. Defensively, Cosgrove was also extremely effective with a .981 fielding percentage in 156 total chances.
He returns this season with a .315 career batting average in 77 games played with 44 career RBI’s and 25 extra-base hits to his credit.
A TCNJ Scholar-Athlete, he is a Dean’s List student majoring in finance with a minor in marketing. He spent the summer of 2006 working as a financial manager at Northwestern Mutual.
A two-sport athlete at North Hunterdon, he excelled in baseball and wrestling, earning all-state and all-conference honors in baseball. He was also named the Express Times Player of the Year in baseball and went on to win three district championships in wrestling and was a three-time region runner-up. A National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society student, he graduated with high honors.
