As a rookie in the Lions’ pitching rotation, Blake Ortiz evolved into the Lions’ set-up man and appeared in 11 games, the second most among the squad’s pitchers in 2004. He finished with a 3.68 ERA in 22 innings of work and fanned 28 batters along the way, holding the opposition to a .231 batting average while on the mound.

He earned a spot on the 2005 NJCBA Division II/III All-State Second Team as a relief pitcher as a sophomore. After appearing in 19 games as a sophomore with a team-leading four saves, Ortiz made 17 appearances as a junior with a 2-2 record and a save. He finished the 2006 campaign with a 5.18 ERA and 17 strikeouts and was the winning pitcher in the 2006 NJAC Championship game. Overall, he enters the 2007 campaign with a 5-4 record and five saves in 47 appearances with a 3.78 career ERA and 77 strikeouts.

An all-conference and Carpenter’s Cup honoree, Ortiz earned All-South Jersey honors as both a pitcher and utility player. A National Honor Society student and a recipient of the Math Achievement Award, he is an accounting major at TCNJ.
