Played two years at Wagner College prior to transferring to TCNJ.

2014: After transferring in from Wagner University, Smith assumed the role of staff ace for the Lions in 2014. He earned ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic All Region Third Team honors, compiling a record of 6-2 that included five complete games and an overall ERA of 2.33. In his first five appearances for TCNJ, Smith went 4-0 with a save. He posted back-to-back shutouts against RPI and Muhlenberg College. In that win over the Mules, Smith struck out five, allowed just six hits and did not issue a free pass. He came through with critical victories late in the season, leading the Lions a 6-2 win over Rutgers-Camden and 4-3 triumph over Richard Stockton. In those games, Smith went 17 innings and allowed just three earned runs.
