Schmutz joined new head coach Danny Blank's staff prior to the 2023 season. He was promoted to Associate Head Coach prior to the 2025 campaign.
Schmutz came with Blank from Widener, where he spent three years as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator.
Before his tenure at Widener, Schmutz served as an assistant women's soccer coach at Mount Aloysius College, where he helped guide the Mounties to a 14-3-2 record and a berth in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference title match in 2018. Schmutz has also spent time as the Director of Youth Development for Deptford Premier FC and SDS.
A native of Cherry Hill, Schmutz played collegiately at Albright, where he started 46 games as a defender. He tallied one goal and five assists for his career, which spanned 49 games.
