Kelly Williams was named Senior Associate Director of Athletics for External Affairs in January of 2015. In his position, Williams oversees game and event operations, marketing, camps and clinics, facility rentals, and serves as the athletic liaison to Development and Alumni Offices. Kelly is responsible for assisting in the generation of revenue through fundraising, development activities for athletics, and increasing attendance at special events including Athletics Hall of Fame and sporting contests. Williams also develops and manages all events centered on athletics community engagement.
Williams serves as a key member of the department’s leadership team, including chairperson for the Athletics Hall of Fame committee and serving on campus wide committees, such as Homecoming, Blue and Gold Award, and Social Justice Task Force.
Williams has participated in the NCAA Division III Institute for Administrative Advancement (2015). Also an active member with National Association of College Director of Athletics (NACDA), Minority Opportunity Athletic Association (MOAA), Council for Advancement and Support Education (CASE), National Basketball Coaches Association (NABC) and the Black Coaches Association (BCA).
Prior to serving in athletic administration, Williams was the head coach of the men’s basketball program. He enjoyed his brightest season coaching at the college in his final year. The Lions went 15-11 overall, qualified for the conference playoffs and William was named 2014-15 NJAC Coach of the Year.
Williams played for the Lions from 1989 to 1993, and served as an assistant coach before embarking on a successful, nine-year tenure (1999-2008) at Mercer County Community College. There he compiled a record of 154-100 and led the Vikings to six Garden State Athletic Conference championships, three National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II Region XIX Finals appearances, which included one year that Mercer advanced to the District IX playoffs. In 2000, he was recognized as the Junior College, Division II/III Coaching Staff of the Year by the New Jersey Collegiate Basketball Coaches Association. Prior to his playing career for the Lions, Williams was a standout at Ewing High School and in 2008 inducted into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame.
Williams has strong ties to the Ewing campus as he played for the Lions from 1989-1993 and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. He returned to his Alma Mater as an Assistant Coach from 1995-99. In addition to his familiarity with TCNJ’s basketball program, in 1995 he began his tenure as an Assistant Director in the Office of Admissions.
