Jessica Clarke made three saves for her fourth shutout of the season.

Box Score

Ewing, NJ… The College of New Jersey women's soccer team scored twice less than eight minutes apart late in the first half as the Lions netted a key 2-0 victory over William Paterson University on Saturday at TCNJ's Soccer Complex.

With the win, the Lions moved to 9-4-1 on the season, while the Pioneers slipped to 10-2-1. Both teams are tied in the New Jersey Athletic Conference standings with 13 points and identical 4-2-1 records. With the win, however, TCNJ holds a potential tiebreaker if the teams are still tied at the end of the season.

TCNJ opened the scoring with 8:13 left in the opening half on a play that started on a long throw-in by freshman Annie McCarthy (Brick, NJ/Brick). McCarthy's throw went deep into the penalty area and was headed by senior Coleen Weber (Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview) to the far post, where senior Erin Cunliffe (Lakewood, NJ/Lakewood) knocked in her team leading eighth goal of the season.

Just before the half, TCNJ tacked on one more marker as senior Laura Delaney (River Vale, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) headed in a corner kick from freshman Nikki Migliori (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert). That goal came with just 38 seconds showing on the clock.

TCNJ keeper Jessica Clarke (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) made that score hold up as she finished with three saves for her fourth shutout of the season.

In goal for the Pioneers, junior Meaghan Baker (Rockaway, NJ/Morris Knolls) kept her team close making nine saves. Her best two came early in the second half as she made a diving save on TCNJ's Casey Caruso (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) and the quickly collected herself to stop a second attempt from point-blank range.

The Lions face another tough test on Wednesday, October 22 as they host eighth-ranked Johns Hopkins University at 7:30 p.m., while the Pioneers return home on Monday to face College of Staten Island in a 4 p.m. contest.
