Lions win 1-0 as Clarke ties record

Box Score

Ewing, NJ … The #18 ranked TCNJ women's soccer team rolled to its sixth straight shutout victory as they downed NJAC opponent Richard Stockton College 1-0.

Freshman Toni DeMaio (Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany Hills) knocked in a restart at the 21:48 mark of the first half which proved to be enough as the Lions stingy defense refused to bend. Senior Jessica Clarke (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) collected her ninth shutout of the season, giving her 41 in her career tying the Lions all-time mark held by Victoria Nusse (1998-2001). Clarke needed just three saves, but collected several dangerous crossing balls out of the air to earn the shutout and tie the record.

In the opening half, sophomore Nikki Migliori (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) struck a restart from 35 yards out that bounced to the left side of the box. DeMaio streaked through the box and hit a one-time shot into the right corner of the net to give the Lions its lone goal of the game. It was DeMaio's second goal of the season and Migliori's seventh assist.

After being dominated in the first half, the Ospreys came out aggressive in the second half, but the backfield of Migliori, freshman Allison Foy (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert), and freshman Eva Gimello (Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy) played exceptional defense to thwart the Stockton attack. Sophomore Annie McCarthy (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) had a solid game in the midfield, and junior Briann McDonough (North Arlington, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) and senior Jillian Casey (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) created several scoring chances on the offensive end.

Osprey freshman goalkeeper Maria Dorris (Mantua,NJ/Clearview) had 10 saves in the tough-luck loss, including two point-blank stops on McDonough late in the second half. Junior Shelley Gibney (Shamong, NJ/Seneca) and senior Laura O'Shea (Glassboro,NJ/Glassboro) applied continuous pressure on the Lions defense throughout the second half.

Since suffering their only loss of the season to Rowan University back on September 23, TCNJ has not allowed a goal. They have outscored their opponents 20-0 during their current six-game winning streak.

The Lions look for their seventh straight win when they visit Williams Paterson University this Saturday, October 17 in another NJAC match-up.
