Ewing, NJ –The College of New Jersey men's basketball team hosted Rowan University on Saturday afternoon in Packer Hall in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game. TCNJ would record the 62-47 victory to improve to 9-14 overall and 5-7 in the NJAC, while Rowan drops to 11-13 overall and 4-8 in the league. The win snaps TCNJ six-game losing streak.
For the Lions, junior
Jay Frank (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) would score a game-high 23 points, while adding his first career double-double as he added 10 rebounds.
TCNJ would take a 31-19 lead at the half as Frank and junior
Aaron Syvertsen (Midland Park, NJ/Midland Park) added 12 and 11 points, respectively to pace the Lions. Rowan was held scoreless from beyond the arch (0-4), while hitting just 29.6% of its shots from the floor (8-27).
In the second stanza, Rowan would pull within six points, down 39-33 (11:05) before TCNJ would pull away. Syvertsen would finish with 11 points as the only other Lion player in double digits for the game. TCNJ would shoot an impressive 87.5% from the line on Saturday as they made 14-of-16 free throws and held a narrow 39-36 edge on the boards.
Rowan's junior center Tim Cook (Willingboro, NJ/Glassboro) would finish with a double-double for the Profs as he had 11 points with 10 rebounds and shot 5-for-7 from the floor.
TCNJ returns to action on February 18 hosting Kean University in the team's regular-season finale in Packer Hall at 8:00 p.m. Rowan will face Rutgers University-Camden on Monday, February 16 at Gloucester Community College at 8:00 p.m. in the Profs' regular-season finale.
