(Pomona, NJ) – Playing in his final home regular season game, Jerome Hubbard (Neptune/Neptune) scored a season-high 23 points and surpassed 1,000 points for his career as No. 10 Richard Stockton (21-2, 10-1) defeated The College of New Jersey (8-13, 4-6) 77-61 at home on Saturday afternoon.
The Ospreys were paced by Hubbard's three-point barrage, as the senior made 5-of-10 from behind the arc in the game. He finally eclipsed the 1,000-point mark with 4:58 remaining in the second half, as a fade away three-pointer from the wing hit nothing but net. After the shot, with Stockton ahead 71-49, head coach Gerry Matthews called a 30-second timeout as the crowd acknowledged the accomplishment.
Four other Ospreys also tallied double-digit points in the game. Omar Smith (Newark/Central) scored 18 points and snatched a game-high eight rebounds. Santini Lancioni (Runnemede/Paul VI), Kai Massaquoi (Lawnside/Haddon Heights) and Michael Farrow (Whitesboro/Middle Twp.) each added 10 points for Stockton.
For the Lions, three players scored in double-digits.
Aaron Syvertsen (Midland Park/Midland Park) poured in 22 including 5-for11 from three-point range,
Jeff Molinelli (Pennington/Hopewell Valley) scored 14 points and
Jay Frank (Brick/Brick Memorial) scored 10 points.
With his performance on Saturday, Frank now has 753 career points as he surpassed the 750 point plateau.
TCNJ started off the game well as a Syvertsen's second three-pointer of the first half gave the Lions a 10-4 lead after the first four minutes. However, Stockton went on a 19-4 run in the next six minutes to take control of the game as they took a 35-27 lead into halftime.
In the second half, TCNJ got as close as 43-40 with 13:28 remaining, but the Ospreys continued to put pressure on the Lions offense as they finished the game on a 34-21 run to secure the victory.
Up next for TCNJ, they will visit Rutgers-Camden on Wednesday at 6 p.m. which will be played at Gloucester County College, while Richard Stockton will also be on the road this Wednesday as they take on rivaled Rowan, at 8 p.m.
