Bethlehem, PA...The College of New Jersey and Moravian College each posted 1-0 wins as the Lions and Greyhound softball teams split a doubleheader on Saturday in Bethlehem, PA.
The Greyhounds won the opening game with a run in the bottom of the seventh, while the Lions cashed in with an unearned run in the fourth to claim the second contest.
The split put TCNJ at 8-2 on the year, while Moravian is 7-5.
TCNJ remains on the road with a doubleheader at Muhlenberg College on Tuesday, March 23 with the first game starting at 3 p.m.
Game 1
Moravian 1, TCNJ 0
The Greyhounds scored the game's only run in the bottom of the seventh inning on a home run by Amanda Dizinno to claim the opener by the score of 1-0.
The loss overshadowed a quality effort by senior Ashley Minervini (Cliffside Park, NJ/Cliffside Park) as she allowed only the one run as she picked up her fifth complete game of the season. Minervini allowed just four hits and recorded three strikeouts.
Sophomore Rebecca Florczyk (Teaneck, NJ/Teaneck) and junior Caitlyn Seamster (Edison, NJ/John P. Stevens) each had hits for the Lions.
Game 2
TCNJ 1, Moravian 0
The Lions returned the favor in the second game countering with a 1-0 win of their own. Sophomore Lauren Fitzsimmons (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) remained undefeated on the season with the win as she improved to 4-0 on the year. She scattered four hits en route to her second shutout of the season with five strikeouts.
TCNJ accounted for the only run in the fourth inning as freshman Ashley Sogluizzo (Middletown, NJ/Middletown South) singled and later scored on a Greyhound error.
Sophomore catcher Michelle Kent (Sparta, NJ/Pope John) picked up a pair of hits in the win.
