Clermont, FL...The College of New Jersey softball team opened the new season with a pair of wins as the lions posted victories of the University of Rochester and Dominican University on Sunday in Florida.
TCNJ's initial win of the season came in an 8-3 triumph over Rochester and then needed only five innings to handle Dominican, 12-1.
The Lions are right back on the field on tomorrow for two more games facing The Sage Colleges (NY) and Wisconsin Lutheran College.

Senior Ashley Minervini (Cliffside Park, NJ/Cliffside Park) picked up her first win of the season as she recorded six strikeouts.
TCNJ took advantage of eight Rochester miscues in the game and used a big six-run inning in fifth to pull away and then added two more in the sixth.
Freshman Kelly Hommen (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) had a successful collegiate debut going 2-for-3.

Sophomore Lauren Fitzsimmons (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgwater-Raritan) gave the Lions another strong outing in the second game as she fired a complete game with eight strikeouts. She allowed only the one run on two hits.
Hommen again had a banner game at the plate going a perfect 3-for-3, while Caitlyn Seamster (Edison, NJ/John P. Stevens), Michelle Kent (Sparta, NJ/Pope John), and Ashley Sogluizzo (Middletown, NJ/Middletown South) each collected two hits.
