Ewing, NJ...The College of New Jersey softball team suffered its first conference loss of the season as the Lions split a doubleheader with visiting Richard Stockton College on Tuesday at Lions' Park.
The Ospreys held off the hosts 3-1 in the opener snapping TCNJ's six-game New Jersey Athletic Conference game winning streak. The Lions then posted a 4-0 shutout in the second tilt to earn the split.
TCNJ, which is ranked eighth in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association, is now 21-5 on the season and 7-1 in conference play. Richard Stockton is an even 4-4 in the NJAC and 14-8 overall.
The Lions continue conference play at home on Saturday, April 17 hosting William Paterson University of a pair of games, while the Ospreys play a non-conference twin bill on Thursday taking on John Jay College of Criminal Justice.

The Ospreys opened the scoring in the third inning of the first game as Laura Dubell (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) reached on an infield singled and scored one batter later as Brooke Shetter (Atco, NJ/Hammonton) homered to left center making it a 2-0 game.
TCNJ cut that deficit in half in the last of the fourth as Dani Hagel (Egg Harbor City, NJ/Oakcrest) doubled and raced home on a single by Katelyn Congilose (Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan).
Richard Stockton got that run right back in the next half inning as pinch-runner Stephanie Darrow (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) scored on a base hit by Jessica Sneddon (Nutley, NJ/Nutley).
Richard Stockton pitcher Jamie Gasko (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) remained undefeated on the season as she moved to 6-0 throwing a complete game allowing four hits.
Senior Ashley Minervini (Cliffside Park, NJ/Cliffside Park) struck out seven in defeat for the Lions.
Sophomore Crystal Lee (Dover, NJ/Morris Knolls) singled in the third inning extending her hitting streak to 15 straight games.
Game 2
TCNJ 2, Richard Stockton College
The Lions bounced back to earn the split getting single runs in both the first and third innings with freshman Kelly Hommen (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) driving in both with a pair of groundouts.
That advantage grew by a run in the fourth as Rebecca Florczyk (Teaneck, NJ/Teaneck) lofted a sacrifice fly to left scoring Michelle Casale (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex) making a 3-0 margin.
TCNJ's final run came in the seventh as Hommen scored on a hit by Hagel.
Lion hurler Lauren Fitzsimmons (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) fired her fifth shutout of the season as she allowed only three hits and fanned nine. The win was her 12th of the season.
Lee saw her hit streak come to an end, but still got on base twice by drawing walks and scored once.
Junior Caitlyn Seamster (Edison, NJ/John P. Stevens) reached base all three times for TCNJ with a double, walk, and was hit by a pitch.
Sneddon had two of Richard Stockton's three hits.
