Glassboro, NJ... The College of New Jersey baseball received a clutch, two-run single off the bat of junior Anthony Palmiotto (Manchester, NJ/Manchester) in the ninth inning to defeat top-seeded Rowan University in the New Jersey Athletic Conference tournament.
With the win, the Lions advanced to the loser's bracket final game against Montclair State University.
With the score tied 4-4 in the ninth, junior Jason Zegarski (Lawrenceville, NJ/Lawrence) singled to lead off the inning. Senior Chris Esperon (Union, NJ/Union Catholic) reached on an error, the Profs sixth of the game. After a sacrifice bunt by catcher Mike Galeotafiore (Brick, NJ/Christian Brothers Academy), Nick Cifelli (Ewing, NJ/Ewing) walked to load the bases. Palmiotto then came through with a base hit through the middle to give TCNJ a 6-4 lead.
Senior A.J. Adamczyk (Brielle, NJ/Manasquan) came on to pitch a scoreless ninth to secure the win for the Lions and starting pitcher Bobby Graber (Franklin Lakes, NJ/Ramapo). Graber (3-2) went eight innings giving up four runs on seven hits while striking out three.
Down 2-1 in the fifth, Galeotafiore hit a two-run double to left-center field to give TCNJ a 3-2 advantage. Sophomore Jimmy Ruzich (Verona, NJ/Montclair Kimberly Academy) hit a sacrifice fly to push the lead to 4-2.
Freshman Scott Kelly (West Windsor, NJ/West Winsor North) had two hits and scored twice while Zegarski also had two hits, scored twice, and drove in a run.
