Cleveland, OH... The College of New Jersey athletic department finished eighth in the race for the 2009-10 Learfield Sports Director's Cup for institutions competing at the NCAA Division III level. The Lions earned 677.75 points marking the 15th straight year the program has landed in the top 10.
The Directors' Cup ratings are the results of an accumulation of points accrued at the various NCAA Division III Championships to evaluate the ranking of a college's overall athletic program.
TCNJ notched top-10 finishes in seven different sports throughout the academic year starting with the women's soccer team placing third. During the winter campaign, the men's swimming and diving program finished sixth at NCAA Division III Championships, while the women's team finished ninth. The women's indoor track and field team also had a strong showing during the winter finishing eighth. In the spring, the women's lacrosse team captured fifth place, the women's outdoor track and field squad claimed eighth, while the women's tennis team placed ninth.
By placing eighth, TCNJ is one of only two institutions to finish in the top 10 in each of the 15 years the history of the Director's Cup. Williams College (MA) is the other to accomplish that feat.
Williams won the Division III Directors' Cup for the 12th consecutive with 1,292.25 points.
