Hoboken, NJ ... The College of New Jersey men's soccer team gave #12-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology all it could handle, but the Ducks used a late second half goal to turn back the Lions 1-0.

The Lions (1-4-1) played well, but encountered a stingy Stevens' defense that has yet to allow a goal in 2010.

Victor Daza registered the game's lone tally with 16:57 remaining in the game to give the Ducks (4-0-1) its fourth victory and goalkeeper Zach Carr his fifth straight shutout. It was Daza's second goal of the year.

The two teams played a scoreless first half. Freshman Sean Casey (Toms River, NJ/Toms River South) and junior Chris Pisano (Metuchen, NJ/Metuchen) tested Carr with shots on net, but he made saves on both attempts. TCNJ did not allow a shot through the first 30 minutes of the half, but Stevens heated up in the final 15 minutes and finished with four shot attempts in the opening period.

Both teams moved the ball well early on in the second half, but couldn't manufacture a solid scoring chance. Stevens had the better of play deeper into the second half (13 shots), but the Lions defense hung tough and kept the Ducks off the scoreboard.

With just under 17 minutes remaining, Daza laced a low shot from 18 yards out, but Lions goalkeeper Aaron Utman (Hopewell, NJ/Hopewell Valley) made a diving stop to his right to keep the game deadlocked at zero. But Stevens came right back moments later as Zach Adler pushed a pass to Daza just inside the box and he bent a well-placed shot into the right side of the net for the eventual game-winner.

Utman finished with five saves in the game. TCNJ finished with eight shots, including three by sophomore Vince McEnroe (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough).

The Lions return home after playing five straight games on the road to host Ramapo College on Saturday, September 18. The New Jersey Athletic Conference opener is scheduled to kick off at 1 p.m at TCNJ Soccer Complex.
