Box Score

Ewing, NJ... The College of New Jersey women's soccer team's offense came alive for six goals and the club's defense posted another shutout as the Lions rolled to a 6-0 conference win over Rutgers University-Camden on Wednesday.

The six goals were the most the team has scored since the opening weekend of the season, while the shutout was the team's ninth in 10 games. Overall, the Lions have outscored the opposition 32-1.

Second-ranked TCNJ is a perfect 10-0 on the season and 4-0 in New Jersey Athletic Conference play. The loss kept the Scarlet Raptors winless in conference play at 0-2-2, while they are 1-6-2 overall.

The Lions used the long ball to open the scoring as junior Annie McCarthy (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) laced a shot from the top of the arc outside the Rutgers-Newark penalty area that caught the underside of the cross bar and dropped in a foot past the goal line for the opening score. That goal was McCarthy's second of the season and came 14:15 into the contest.

TCNJ doubled that lead in the latter stages of the half as Katie Lindacher (Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) sent a cross to the front of the Scarlet Raptor net where Jessica Davila (Middletown, NJ/Middletown) made a nice sliding play to redirect the ball in for her sixth goal of the season with 5:10 remaining before the half.

The Lions struck quick in the second half as Brenna Rubino (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern) ripped a shot inside the far post 2:38 into the new frame.

In the final 25 minutes, TCNJ tacked on three more scores as Michelle Canning (Wall, NJ/St. Rose Belmar), Toni DeMaio (Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany Hills), and Jaclyn Levowsky (Washington, NJ/Warren Hills) each found the back of the net.

Sophomore Katie Cornacchia (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) added to the win as she picked up her first collegiate point with an assist.

Freshman keepers Kendra Griffith (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) and Samantha Iamurri (Logan Township, NJ/Kingsway) combined for TCNJ's ninth shutout without having to face a shot.

In goal for Rutgers-Camden, Leighanna Milby (Blackwood, NJ/Highland Regional) had six saves, while Kelly Harper (Delanco, NJ/Riverside) added three.

Next up for the Lions is a road contest at Rutgers University-Newark on Saturday, October 2 in a 7 p.m. start, while the Scarlet Raptors return home to face Montclair State University in a 3 p.m. kickoff.
