Salisbury, MD … The College of New Jersey men's soccer team received a late goal from senior
Michael Recchia (Wayside, NJ/Ocean Twp.) with two minutes remaining in regulation as the Lions played 18
th-ranked Salisbury University to a 2-2 draw on Saturday afternoon.
TCNJ (4-5-4) tied its second straight non-conference game of the week. The tie snapped a three-game winning streak for the Sea Gulls (7-2-2).
Trailing 2-1 in the waning minutes, Recchia took a pass from junior
Taylor Gregory (Sea Girt, NJ/Wall) and knocked in the equalizer at the 87:59 mark. It was Recchia's second goal of the season.
The Lions got off to a quick start taking a 1-0 lead on Salisbury in the opening minutes of the contest. Senior
Dan Constants (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) scored his first goal of the season when he beat the keeper up top to give the Lions a 1-0 lead.
The Sea Gulls evened the score 10 minutes later when
Trevor Sharpe netted his sixth tally of the season. Salisbury then went up 2-1 at the 29:59 point in the match when
Matt Greene converted a two-on-one for his fourth goal of 2011.
Junior
Matt Frederick (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) had a busy day between the pipes as he was forced to make eight saves in the game. Salisbury held a 23-19 advantage in shots on the day.
TCNJ returns to New Jersey Athletic Conference play on Wednesday, October 12 when they host William Paterson University in TCNJ's Soccer Complex at 4 p.m.
