Box Score

Hacketstown, NJ … The College of New Jersey basketball team suffered an 86-77 defeat at the hands of Centenary College on Tuesday afternoon.

The loss snapped a modest two-game winning streak for the Lions (5-4), while the Cyclones evened their record at 5-5.

Sophomore Skyelar Ettin (Princeton, NJ/Princeton) registered a career-high 21 points to lead TCNJ's offense. The 6' 3” forward hit 9-of-15 shots from the floor and also led the Lions with a season-best eight rebounds.

Senior Kyle Rawson (Warren, NJ/Watchung Hills) added 17 points on 6-of-11 shooting, while freshman Kyle Cancillieri (Lincroft, NJ/Middletown South) finished with 13 points and six boards.

Turnovers were a sore spot for the Lions as they gave the ball away 21 times in the game. They entered the contest averaging just 13.6, but Centenary capitalized on their opponent's charitable play, scoring 24 points off giveaways.

Down 45-40 at the break, the Lions were able to battle back and take a 63-62 lead off a Rawson lay-up with 8:47 remaining. They stretched the lead to three when freshman Emmanuel Matlock (Trenton, NJ/Solebury) stole the ball on the ensuing Cyclone possession. He fed Cancillieri with a pass and the rookie jammed it home for a 65-62 advantage.

Centenary regrouped, however, hitting clutch three-point shots and dropping in free throws down the stretch to seal its fifth win.

Junior Max Hughes led the host with 18 points, hitting all eight of his free throw attempts. Junior Warren Murphy had 13 points and senior Larry Lengahan finished with 12 points and seven rebounds.

TCNJ will look to get back on track when they visit the City College of New York on Thursday, December 29 at 6 p.m.
