Orlando, FL... The early-season success of The College of New Jersey softball team continued on Friday as the Lions added two more victories pushing their winning streak to seven straight games.

TCNJ opened the day with a 6-4 win over Babson College and capped the things off with a 5-0 shutout over John Carroll University. Those two wins give the Lions a perfect 7-0 trip to Florida with a pair of games remaining.

The Lions cap off their spring trip on Saturday with a pair of early games taking the field against Western New England College at 9:30 a.m. and then Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute at 11:30 a.m.

The Lions held off a late Babson charge for their sixth win to open the season. The Lions scored a run in the bottom of the first before the Beavers knotted the score in their half of the second.

TCNJ took the lead for good in the last of the third scoring three times.

Junior Crystal Lee (Rockaway, NJ/Morris Knolls) led the Lions at the plate going 3-for-4 and also scored twice and stole a pair of bases. Sophomore Ashley Sogluizzo (Middletown, NJ/Middletown South) added to the win with a pair of hits and also scored a run and drove in another.

Freshman pitcher Kelly Hardman (Cranford, NJ/Cranford) picked up her win of the season in as many starts as she scattered six hits, while only one of the four runs she allowed was earned.

Pitcher Lauren Fitzsimmons (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) was nearly untouchable again as she racked up her fourth straight shutout extending her scoreless inning streak to 28.1 innings. She allowed four hits and struck out five, but didn't allow a walk.

The Lions plated the only run they would need in the first as Lee scored when Katelyn Congilose (Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) walked with the bases loaded.

TCNJ added to that lead with single runs in the third and fifth innings, while scoring twice in the fourth.

Lee once again had a solid game at the plate with three hits in four official plate appearances. The outfielder also scored twice and drove in another.
