TCNJ 3, Muhlenberg 0 (Box Score)
Orlando, FL... The College of New Jersey softball team got another quality start from pitcher from junior pitcher
Lauren Fitzsimmons (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) as the Lions blanked Muhlenberg College 3-0 on Wednesday in Florida.
TCNJ's second game against DeSales University was postponed due to weather in the third inning. That leaves the team's winning streak at five games with four of those triumphs coming via shutout.
The Lions scored all three of their runs against the Mules in the opening two innings pushing two of those across in the bottom of the first inning. Sophomore
Ashley Sogluizzo (Middletown, NJ/Middletown South) got things rolling with a one-out double down the third-base line and then scored on a base hit by sophomore
Liz Huttner (Princeton Junction, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro South). Huttner then raced home on a double by sophomore
Kelly Hommen (Ridgewood, NJ/NJ/Ridgewood) for a 2-0 edge.
In the second, TCNJ made it 3-0 as senior
Colleen Cawley (Riverton, NJ/Holy Cross) doubled and later scored on a wild pitch.
That was all Fitzsimmons needed as she ran her season-opening scoreless streak to 21 innings with her third straight shutout. She gave up just a pair of hits and finished with eight strikeouts and didn't issue a walk.
