Pomona, NJ... The College of New Jersey collected 12 hits as the Lions needed only five innings to pick up a 10-1 victory over Richard Stockton on Tuesday.
The day was slated to feature a doubleheader, but the second game was rained out with Richard Stockton holding a 2-0 lead through an inning-and-a-half. No make-up date has been set.
TCNJ moved over the .500 mark in New Jersey Athletic Conference play as they are 4-3 in the conference and 18-7 overall. The loss knocked the Ospreys to 11-12 overall and 1-6 in NJAC play.
The Lions return home on Saturday, April 16 for another conference doubleheader against Kean University in a 1 p.m. start at Lions' Park.
TCNJ used a pair of multiple-run innings to put the game away pushing five runs across in the third and then three more in the fifth.
Prior to those innings, sophomore
Ashley Sogluizzo (Middletown, NJ/Middletown South) opened the scoring in the first, but the hosts got the run back in the latter half of the frame to knot the score.
TCNJ then exploded for five runs in the third as
Kelly Hommen (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood),
Kristen Lake (Readington, NJ/Hunterdon Central),
Katelyn Congilose (Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan), and
Crystal Lee (Rockaway, NJ/Morris Knolls) each drove in runs with singles, while
Michelle Casale (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex) plated the other run with a ground out.
In the fifth, the Lions iced the game with three more runs as Lake raced home on an error and Hommen drove in a pair with a base hit.
Freshman pitcher
Alex Carisone (Branchburg, NJ/Rutgers Prep) scattered seven hits over the five innings to pick up her team-leading sixth win of the season.
Hommen finished the game going 3-for-4 with three runs batted in, while Lee also collected three hits.
