Camden, NJ... The College of New Jersey baseball team broke its four-game slide as they defeated Rutgers University-Camden 10-1 on Thursday in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match-up.

Senior Sean Stewart (Howell, NJ/Freehold Township) picked up his second win of the season in his best outing of 2011. He pitched six solid innings surrendering just a run on four hits while striking out three.

Sophomore Michael Murphy (Staten Island, NY/Staten Island Tech) led an 11-hit attack with a perfect 3-for-3 day at the plate, scoring twice while knocking in four. Sophomore Nick Cifelli (Ewing, NJ/Ewing) also cracked a pair of doubles and drove in three and junior Mike Galeotafiore (Brick, NJ/Christian Brothers Academy) added two hits and scored three times.

The Lions (15-8/2-5 NJAC) wasted little time in slamming the brakes on their recent woes scoring four runs in the top of the first inning. They added two more in the third and three in the sixth as the Scarlet Raptors (9-13/1-6 NJAC) never threatened.

Sophomore Scott Kelly (West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor North) got the engines started in the first drawing a walk and then swiping his 11th base of the season. Another free pass to junior Jimmy Ruzich (Verona, NJ/Montclair Kimberly Academy) and a base hit by Galeotafiore loaded the bases. Murphy walked to plate the first run before sophomore Andrew Priece (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) lofted a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0.

Cifelli then belted his first double of the game to drive doubled in two runs, staking Stewart with a 4-0 lead.

TCNJ manufactured two more runs in the third on just one hit to stretch the margin of advantage to 6-1. In the sixth, Murphy ripped a bases-clearing double to right-center field to put the game out of reach.

Stewart enjoyed his longest stint of the season, which is a positive sign for the Lions as they head into the thickest part of their schedule. Junior Dominic Capuano (Ewing, NJ/Ewing) took over in the seventh and recorded a three-inning save to give TCNJ its 15th victory of the season. Capuano, who has yet to allow an earned run this season, allowed just one hit and struck out three.

The Lions will play host to Rutgers-Camden tomorrow at George Ackerman Park. The game is set for a 3:30 p.m. start.
