TCNJ drops conference DH at Montclair State

Little Falls NJ... The College of New Jersey softball dropped both ends of a conference doubleheader at Montclair State University on Saturday as the Red Hawks took the opening game 4-1 and then won the nightcap 7-0.

TCNJ is now an even 3-3 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference and 17-7 overall, while the Red Hawks improved to 6-0 in the conference and 16-4 overall.

The Lions continue conference play on Tuesday heading to Richard Stockton College for a doubleheader against the Ospreys at 3 p.m.

Game 1
Montclair State 4, TCNJ 1

Montclair State scored all four of its runs in the bottom of the third inning as the hosts won the opening game.

The Lions quickly got one of the runs back in the fourth as junior Michelle Kent (Sparta, NJ/Pope John) singled home Ashley Sogluizzo (Middletown, NJ/Middletown South), who led off the inning with a base hit.

At the plate for TCNJ, sophomores Kelly Hommen (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) and Michelle Casale (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex) each finished with two hits.

Freshman Alex Carisone (Branchburg, NJ/Rutgers Prep) went the distance on the mound for the Lions as she struck out five.

Game 2
Montclair State 7, TCNJ 0

Like the first game, the Red Hawks used a big inning to get the lead scoring six times in the second and then added a single run in the sixth.

Junior Crystal Lee (Rockaway, NJ/Morris Knolls) had a solid game in the batter's box as she wrapped out a pair of hits, while senior Colleen Cawley (Riverton, NJ/Holy Cross) reached base safely with a pair of walks.
