DePiero leads #23 to 3-1 win over William Paterson

Ewing, NJ…The College of New Jersey women's soccer team won the 11th time in 12 games as they defeated William Paterson University 3-1 in New Jersey Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon in TCNJ's Soccer Complex.
 
The 23rd-ranked Lions (11-1, 4-1 NJAC)) scored 14 seconds into the contest and never relinquished control of the game as they put forth a dominant effort against the visiting Pioneers (5-7-2. 2-4 NJAC).
 
Junior Sloan DePiero (Ramsey, NJ/Ramsey) scored her fourth and fifth goals of the season and sophomore Korrie Harkins (Wenonah, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) netted her third to lead the offensive attack. Junior Katie Lindacher (Egg Harbor Twp, NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.), senior Katie Landrigan (Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford), and senior Amy Van Dyk (Wyckoff, NJ/Rampao) each tallied assists.
 
WPU's Michelle Marabondo scored the lone goal for the Pioneers. She converted on a penalty kick with 2:49 remaining in the game.
 
Lindacher raced into open territory down the right side following the opening kickoff. She cut in towards the goal and slid the ball back to DePiero, who hit a one-time shot into the upper left-hand corner from 10 yards out to put TCNJ up 1-0 just moments after the opening whistle.
 
With just under 10 minutes remaining in the half, Landrigan threaded a pass from midfield to Harkins. She raced onto the ball in on goal and tucked a low shot into the left corner to give the Lions a 2-0 advantage.
 
The Lions scored 54:13 their third and final goal of the day at the 54:13 mark of the second half. Van Dyk sent a ground pass to DePiero who promptly deposited her second goal of the game from six yards out.
 
Sophomore goalie Kendra Griffith (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) went the distance for the Lions making three saves to secure the victory.
 
Alyssa Falduto made five saves in net for the Pioneers, while Mary Jane Seiler and Kat Clint also stopped a shot each for WPU.
 
TCNJ plays a non-conference game at 17th-ranked Johns Hopkins University on Wednesday, October 10, while the Pioneers are idle until October 13 when they host Rutgers University-Camden.
