Box Score

Union, NJ... The College of New Jersey softball team ran into a familiar opponent in the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament on Friday with Montclair State University dealing the Lions a 7-0 setback in the Union, NJ Regional.

This was the fourth time the two New Jersey Athletic Conference teams have met this season, with the Red Hawks (40-7) coming out on top each time. TCNJ (26-16), however, can get right back on track on Saturday as they return to the field to face Moravian College at 10 a.m. The Lions and Greyhounds met earlier this season when both teams were on their spring trip with TCNJ coming away with a 3-0 win. The winner of that game will play again later in the day, while the other team's tournament run will come to an end.

Montclair State, the top seed in the regional, got the early jump on the Lions scoring twice in the top of the first on a two-run single by NJAC Player and Pitcher of the Year Alex Hill (Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany Hills).

The Red Hawks added another run in the second, before Dana Amato (Hillsdale, NJ/Pascack Hills) drove in two more with a base hit in the fourth and hit a solo home run in the sixth extending the advantage to 6-0.

The final run came in the seventh inning making the final 7-0.

Hill earned her 28th win of the season scattering five hits.

A day after getting her 100th career hit, senior Katelyn Congilose (Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) had a solid day at the plate going 3-for-3. Sophomore Nicole Brodbeck (Atco, NJ/Hammonton) also recorded a multiple-hit game going 2-for-3.

Senior pitcher Lauren Fitzsimmons (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) suffered the loss for the Lions. She already holds the school record for career strikeouts and added four more in the game raising her total to 468.
