Lions tamed by Roadrunners 3-0 in NJAC opener

Box Score

Ewing, NJ …The College of New Jersey men's soccer team suffered a 3-0 loss to Ramapo College in its New Jersey Athletic Conference opener on Saturday afternoon at TCNJ's Soccer Complex.

The Roadrunners (4-3, 1-0) received a first-half goal by senior Rob Santaniello (Park Ridge, NJ/Park Ridge) and a pair of tallies in the second period by junior Dave Przybylo (Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany) and senior Joseph Kane (Delran, NJ/Delran) to register their first NJAC triumph.

The Lions (3-4, 0-1) owned the better part of play in the second half, but could not put one between the posts as they were held scoreless for the second consecutive game. TCNJ held a 14-11 advantage in shots in the contest over Ramapo.

The Roadrunners got on the board at the 32:41 mark in the opening period. Przybylo sent a through ball from midfield that Santaniello ran onto and put away for his team-leading sixth goal of the season.

The Lions had a couple near misses in the opening half. Seniors Sean Casey (Toms River, NJ/Toms River South) and Vince McEnroe (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) each ripped shots that just cleared the crossbar.

Przybolo was on the receiving end of a long pass from Anthony Pasciolla (Park Ridge, NJ/St. Joseph) at the 58:37 mark and slipped a shot past the Lions' keeper for his third goal of the season. Kane capped the scoring with under four minutes remaining, knocking in a loose ball in front off of a corner kick for his second goal of the year.

TCNJ goalkeeper Matt Fredrick (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) had four saves in the game, while Roadrunner goalie Brian Petrunik (Chatham, NJ/Chatham) stopped four shots for his second win of 2012.

TCNJ returns to the pitch this Tuesday, September 18 when they host Richard Stockton College in Lions' Stadium at 7:30 p.m. Ramapo will host New Jersey City University on Wednesday, September 19 in Mahwah, NJ at 4 p.m.
