Galloway, NJ …The College of New Jersey men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to 10
th-ranked Babson College on Friday night in their opening game of the Osprey Open held at Richard Stockton College.
The loss snapped a modest two-game winning streak for the Lions (2-2) as they had posted back-to-back shutouts entering the match-up with the Beavers (4-0).
A goal by
Kevin Israel at the 40:21 mark of the opening period was the first tally against the Lions in 261:56 of play. TCNJ battled and held a 7-5 advantage in shots in the half, but couldn't break through to get on the board.
The Lions knocked on the door early in the second half as junior
Kevin Shaw (Brookside, NJ/West Morris Mendham and sophomore
Kevin McCartney (Old Bridge, NJ/St. Joseph's) each fired shots on goal, but keeper Stephen Donato was there to stop both shots. Donato finished with five saves in the game.
Babson put the game away in the 78
th minute when
Salomon Guindi took a pass from
Eric Anderson and converted his second goal of the season.
The Lions outshot the Beavers 13-10 in the contest, including a game-high five by Shaw. Senior
Matt Fedrick (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) made a pair of saves for TCNJ in net.
Tomorrow will bring another tough opponent as the Lions face Lebanon Valley College. The Dutchmen are a perfect 4-0 on the season after coming from behind to defeat Richard Stockton 2-1 earlier in the day. Kickoff for tomorrow is set for 3 p.m.
