Lions drop close games to Bethel and Haverford

Michelle Casale had two doubles against Bethel.

Clermont, FL... The College of New Jersey softball team dropped a pair of games on Friday in Florida, dropping decisions to Bethel University and Haverford College.
 
The Lions fell to Bethel by the score of 10-8 and then Haverford rallied for a 6-5 win. They are now 7-3 on the season.
 
TCNJ concludes its spring trip on Saturday taking on Plymouth State and Trinity College.

The Lions saw their five-game winning streak come to an end as Bethel.
 
TCNJ continued to produce offensively getting on the board in the first inning with senior Kelly Hommen (Ridgewood, NJN/Ridgewood) singling home classmate Michelle Casale (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex).
 
The Lions added two more runs an inning later Casale drove in both Jamie Purcell (Nutley, NJ/Mount St. Dominic Academy) and Christine Desiderio (Babylon, NY/Babylon) with a double.
 
After another run in the third, Casale was involved in the scoring in the bottom of the fourth as well, reaching base on a double and then scoring on a sacrifice fly by senior Ashley Sogluizzo (Middletown, NJ/Middletown South).
 
In the fifth, the Lions pushed two more runs across with senior Liz Huttner (Princeton Junction, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro South) driving home Corinne Minicozzi (Hawthorne, NJ/Hawthorne) and Steph Vuono (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern).
 
In the bottom of the seventh, TCNJ was able to score one run on a base hit by Desiderio making the final score 10-8.
 
Purcell had a nice game at the plate with three hits, while Casale finished with a pair doubles.
 
Haverford College 6, TCNJ 5,
The Fords scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to earn the win.
 
TCNJ led 2-0 after a half inning of play and then bumped that lead to 5-0 with three runs in the third.
 
Haverford got one run back in the latter half of the third and completed the comeback in the seventh.
 
Huttner had one hit and scored two runs for the Lions, while Sogluizzo added a double. Freshman Deanna Utter (Byram, NJ/Lenape Valley) and Desiderio each had a hit and drove in a run.
